Jacqueline is a free-lance management consultant focusing on strategic planning, organisational development and change management in the commercial, public and voluntary sectors.
Jacqueline started her career in 1985 in the IT industry, firstly as a systems developer, then in sales and marketing for Comshare Ltd before moving to HSBC Bank. Following a year in HSBC as a line manager for systems developers, Jacqueline joined a start-up software company. Over the next six years her roles included Operations Manager, Partner and Customer Relationship Manager, and, following completion of a management development programme at Cranfield University, Jacqueline joined the senior management team. She re-structured the organisation from a functional hierarchy to a project-based, matrix structure, improving productivity and eliminating redundant positions, produced the company’s first marketing strategy and led its implementation.
In 1996, Jacqueline joined the Hay Group, an international organisation specialising in helping organisations become more effective through strategy clarification, culture change, people management, organisational structure and roles, leadership development, reward and recognition, motivation, and change management. In her eight years at Hay Group Jacqueline has worked on client projects across all Hay Group’s activities where her clients included: Anglo American, Axa Insurance, The British Council, Centrica, Department for Education, Merton FE College, Pedigree Masterfoods, Pfizer, Reuters, South Downs FE College, Unilever, and Yell Group.
In addition she led a turn-around project for the company’s Information Services Division, established a centre of excellence for project management in the consultancy, assisted the head of Hay Group’s International Development Practice to establish and grow the business, and led the review and re-launch of Hay Group’s UK coaching practice.
Whilst working for Hay Group, Jacqueline took a sabbatical with Voluntary Services Overseas working as a Strategic Planning advisor for a charity in Bangladesh. Jacqueline helped the charity to develop a three-year strategic plan and learn the necessary skills to develop future plans on their own. She also trained staff to develop effective role profiles to form the foundation of new people management processes identified through the strategic planning process.
In 2004, Jacqueline established J Hill Associates in order to offer a range of consultancy services from strategic planning to operational management. Projects include: leadership development for a high street bank and a leading property and land management agency; creating generic role definitions for a reward information services consultancy; leadership development for secondary school managers; selection interviews for Future Leaders programme for inner city schools; leading workshops on ‘creating a vision’ at a leadership development conference as part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships programme; advice on restructuring and transition with WaterAid; strategy clarification through to operational planning at TimeBank; coaching a Director at the Carnegie Youth Trust; developing an information strategy, marketing strategy, and facilitating culture change with Hope and Homes for Children; developing and delivering a cultural awareness training course with Age Concern England; and training and advice on change management and strategic direction setting with senior management in VSO.
