Client resources
In my travels I have collected a wealth of models, tools and techniques to share.
Here are just a few of those that clients have found useful, along with the books and videos that I turn to time and time again, for myself and to recommend to clients.
Leading personal and organisational change: Change happens when you not only have a great plan, but you also have the motivation and co-operation of all those affected, including yourself! I love this model for its simplicity and impact. It’s all about tipping the balance in favour of change. An exercise that you can work through on your own, with others who might be involved and with your coach facilitating. Click to download.
Reflective practice: We all reflect to a greater or lesser degree. Many of us wish we had more time to reflect, or that our reflections were more productive. This is just one of the many guides to reflective practice that I have collected, which I like for its structure, it’s attention to the emotions, and its power to generate valuable insights and actions. An exercise to work through on your own and/or facilitated by your coach. Click to download.
Personal values: Our values are significant drivers of our behaviour and the way in which we see the world. They are the standards against which we judge ourselves and against which we judge others. However, just like overplayed strengths, sometimes the way in which we express our values can get in our way, and our values and how we express them can differ from person to person. This is a useful exercise to identify the values that drive you, how they help you in life and how they might get in your way. It can raise significant questions for clients and support insightful conversations. I like the way it can act as a catalyst for some really impactful coaching work. Personal communication styles and preferences: Book “People Styles at Work and Beyond – Making Bad Relationships Good and Good Relationships Better” by Robert Bolton and Dorothy Grover Bolton. Personality preference model and how that impacts relationships with those who are different to you. Less complex but related to Myers Briggs dimensions. Self-score questionnaire and useful appendix on how to work well with other personality types. Source from an ethical bookstore.
Organisational politics: Book “Survival of the Savvy – High-Integrity Political Tactics for Career and Company Success” by Rick Brandon PhD and Marty Seldman PhD. Does what it says on the tin really. Useful model within which to think through different approaches to organisational politics and how to work most effectively with people who are different to you. Source from an ethical bookstore.
Resilience, vulnerability and shame: Book “The Resilience Factor – 7 Keys to Finding Your Inner Strength and Overcoming Life’s Hurdles” by Karen Reivich and Andrew Shatte. Learning to think accurately, respond more effectively and master the skill of resilience. Source from an ethical bookstore.
